SMS Garden

Message from Ms. Collins

If you haven't seen one of the most beautiful locations on our campus, please do!  Our Silverado Middle School garden is on the south end of the campus beyond the main classrooms and C wing.

In the garden you can find a wide variety fruit trees, grapevines, native plants, vegetables, berries, and so much more.  One of the student's favorite features are the small ponds full of fish, frogs and in the spring tadpoles. There are of course lizards, birds, butterflies and countless other critters and natural wonders.  Several classes use the garden on a regular basis for a wide variety of curricular and social reasons.

The garden is a beautiful place but with that comes a lot of work to maintain it.  We are always in need of weeding and general garden work, but also fence repair, along with grape and tree pruning on occasion.  If you'd like to volunteer some time, it is always welcome.  We usually have a couple of Saturday garden work days and appreciate all who come to help.

We gratefully accept donations.  Old or new garden tools, such as rakes, shovels, trowels, hoes, etc.  We also love to get  patio umbrellas, tables, chairs, and picnic tables.  Garden gloves are constantly in need of replacement and donations of plants, seeds and soil conditioner are gladly accepted as well.

Brenda Collins, 6th grade math/science and 7th grade exploratory, is the garden coordinator and teacher liaison. If you have any questions or would like to donate any time, materials or tools.
